Well, what can I say…
In all seriousness, the only surprie to me is the relatively small IQ gap. I would have thought it would be higher. Particularly because atheism is involved, where surely it cannot be very intelligent to believe in imaginary deities. Perhaps this small gap is due to this being a US study: the US has a large pro-religion and anti-atheism bias.

Interesting study, but I would not put much weight to it, I think there are many intelligent people that are god believers, they just do not dwell on the details, so fail to see the absurdity of it all.

Jane Goodall believes in God and she believes in evolution and is very intelligent. I’ve also known some really close minded stupid Atheists. I don’t really think intelligence and atheism go hand in hand.

It’s not about what we believe: it is what research shows. And it is of course about average. Of course there are stupid atheists and intelligent believers. On average, however, there appear, according to this academic research, to be more intelligent athrists.
This does surprise me, but the point is, it is research. Nothing stops others from repeating or refuting. I look forward to such refuting or confirming research.

I’m suspicious of research in general. Maybe that’s why I’m an atheist - being a skeptic and critical thinker — I still read false study after false study regarding RF health effects.

Being a skeptic should make you a scientist, of course. As well as, I agree, an atheist.
Eventually, the truth shall out.
