Um.. Hollywood vs me?
February 17th, 2007Ah.. I see that my ISP sent me a note last month (typical, to an unused mail account) that tells me Paramount Pictures alleges through some enforcement agency that I am infringing copyright:
> This infringement notice contains an XML tag that can be used to automate the processing of this data. If you would like more information on how to use this tag please contact BayTSP

..etc etc, and it all ends with:

It is amusing that this is all automated with an XML file.. too much work to do it manually one supposes. Paramount are automatically tracking what anyone does, even in Canada. They even use a PGP signature in their XML file (oh, the irony).
The sad part of it is of course that Hollywood tries to run the world like this.
And the silly part is that they are so heavy-handed: the note is full of “perjury”, “certify”, “rights”, “infringement”, and many other such words. Treat the public like criminals and that’s what you will get, I would say.

There was a cbc.ca story about this yesterday or the day before…as Canada is in the sights for not designing its copyright laws to suit certain American entertainment industries.
Brace yourself for some sort of Tory capitulation.

Yes, I am bracing myself.
I am willing to give them the benefot of the doubt, but so far the Tories have only been the “Defender Of The USA” And “Defender Of Big Business Interests” - against Canadians and consumers. In words, they sound good; in actions, I have not seen anything good at all.
Hope I am wrong…

Ah yes, indeed, that is exactly what this is. An attempt at intimidation.
